Inner Child Collection
"At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, 'Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.' "
Matthew 18:1-5
Matthew 18:1-5
There are three things that I want to explore as I work on this series.
One of these things is the still and peaceful heart of a child.
I just had my 23rd birthday and as I find myself in a brand new year, I don't want to continue growing up in the way I have been, entertaining stress and worry with every new responsibility. I would like to break this bad habit by reconnecting with the quietness of my inner child.
Secondly I hope to bring awareness to adults who could be hindering the natural ways of a child, even if they appear to be misbehavior or annoyance, this very thing could be the backbone of their personality.
Children will eventually turn into adults and it only takes one adult to shape and influence a child either for good or bad. To encourage myself and others to help young children, teenagers, and young adults my own age, to be true to themselves and not get stuck in society’s cookie cutter.
Lastly I want to figure out my childish behaviors I don’t want to lose as I get older. Oftentimes as adults we belittle or manipulate children, these have lasting effects throughout their whole lives. We continue to look down on other adults who have eccentric behaviors or maybe we don’t accept ourselves because we are believing lies that tell us we are not good enough. I want to challenge myself and others to see all aspects of our life from a different perspective and act and live in a way that makes us as vulnerable as a child without fear or shame. For us all to create safety in our relationships for others to truly be themselves around us and create bonds with each other that come quickly as consequences of genuine trust and acceptance.
I’m expecting this to be a freeing process for me and hopefully for you, to be free of worries, to be free of caring what people think of us, and to free the kids who are being forced to be someone they are not.

A Secret Place
I was sitting on a swing set, playing with some sweet little girls, and I asked them, “What is the best thing about being a kid?”
The five year old said, “Sneaking away from long boring conversations.”
The nine year old said, “Going on Adventures, and finding Secret Places!” I knew right away I wanted to incorporate their answers into my Inner Child Series.
This Acrylic painting, “A Secret Place” is about not losing your childlike wonder when it comes to exploring creation.
I hope this painting can inspire people to go on adventures and find secret places to sit at the feet of God and quiet their soul and listen for God’s whispers of wisdom in the wind.
To find a Secret Place of rest, were God lifts off your burdens, delights in your presence as you delight in the presence of His Spirit, a unity through the quietness of nature, with the creator.
Sometimes it’s hard to put down our phones, even harder to quiet our thoughts, sometimes impossible to find time alone, but there is a God who is calling you by name into secret places. In a secret place you will find secret things, your secret soul renewed by secret wisdom.
Please read these relevant and encouraging verses,
“Behold you delight is truth in my inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.”
~Psalm 51:6~
“I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.”
~Isaiah 45:3~
“I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket.
In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder;
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.”
~Psalm 81:6-7~

Skiing is at a tie with painting as my favorite thing to do!
So when I saw my first mountain goat out skiing last December I immediately wanted to paint one! There is nothing like encountering wildlife to give you the feeling of awe and wonder, immediately my heart will say a prayer of gratitude to the Creator of such magnificent animals. I spent the rest of the season trying to get a picture of one, every time I would see one I wouldn't have my zoom camera and then every time I carried my camera I wouldn't see one. Finally within the last few days of the season I got a good picture of this pregnant mamma, I was thrilled!
Although I decided to add some skiers to this painting for more reasons, because skiing does something to me that nothing else does, it makes me a kid again! I get to play in the snow all day, laugh, be creative, go deep into nature like I did all growing up, and get that silent time that's important for prayer and soul reflection.
When I was well into this painting, practically done, I ran across a Bible verse that described this painting perfectly!
"The high mountains are for the wild goats; the rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers. He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting."
Psalms 104:18-19
At first I did not know if it had any significance, but after thinking about it for a while, I realized it goes well with this series. It is saying that everything has its place and time, and it does not help to worry about when something is going to happen or where you're going to end up, but simply trust that God is in control and causes all things to work together for good.

I needed to show you how the moon and the sun look; like they own the sky! They are never this big compared to that huge mountain, but in a way a camera cannot express, let your imagination run as wild as a child and see the world from new perspectives!
